The Samsung Lions of professional baseball performed a ceremony to confirm the second place in front of a packed home crowd of 24,000. They erased all magic numbers to secure tickets for the playoff.

This marks the first time in three years that Samsung has returned to the postseason stage since 2021. Samsung, which had 77 wins, 61 losses and two draws this season, finishes the regular season by ranking second even if it loses all of its remaining games.

Won Tae-in, the ace of blue blood, took the mound as Samsung's starting pitcher. During six innings, Won threw 100 pitches, allowing five hits, allowing one run and striking out five, and securing his 15th win (six losses) this season.

This is Won's personal record of most wins in a single season. He has surpassed his record of 14 wins in 2021. With the victory, he also outperformed Kwak Bin (Doosan Bears), who had 14 wins, and led the team in multiple wins.

From the beginning of the game, Samsung seized the upper hand early on. Samsung scored the first run in the bottom of the first inning with Park Byung-ho's three-run shot to left-center with runners on the first and second bases with two outs. After the third inning with two outs, Koo Ja-wook scored with a solo shot.

In the top of the fourth inning, Won gave Jang a timely RBI, with runners on the first and second bases with two outs, and allowed his first run on the day. However, he threw the ball to bullpen Song Eun-beom after throwing out the fifth and sixth innings side by side.

Koo hit another homer in the sixth inning. With no outs and runners on the first base in the bottom of the sixth inning, Koo hit a two-run homer over the right fence by hitting a high cutter from Kiwoom starter Ariel Furado. It was Koo's fourth consecutive homer in his career.

In the seventh inning, pinch hitter Lee Chang-yong and Lee Sung-kyu added an RBI single each. The score widened to 8 to 1. The two teams added one run each in the eighth inning, making it 9 to 2. Samsung was in crisis after being hit by Kiwoom in the ninth inning with six runs.

Starting with Kim Tae-jin's hit after two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Kiwoom had a chance to load the bases thanks to defensive errors and walks. At that time, Kim Hye-sung's two-run timely hit, Choi Joo-hwan's one-run timely hit, and Kim Gun-hee's three-run home run hit chased Samsung to the bottom of his chin.

However, Samsung closer Kim Jae-yoon stopped Kiwoom's momentum. After taking the mound, Kim Jae-yoon had a hit to the right on the right field, but he struck out his follow-up Jang Jae-young to end the game.

Samsung achieved its 28th home game of the season on the day. Samsung, which has secured second place, will leave for Gwangju on Sunday to face the Kia Tigers, which ranks first.
